WriteLife Author Tunette Powell’s Daddyless Daughters Segment to Air on OWN Network
Omaha, NE (PRWEB) July 10, 2013 -- Last month, WriteLife author Tunette Powell participated in a live taping of Oprah’s Lifeclass Series on Daddyless Daughters. Tune in to see Tunette’s segment on Sunday, July 14 and 21, at 9/8c as Iyanla Vanzant and Oprah address the issue of daddyless daughters on OWN.
Powell participated in the Lifeclass with a group of 100 women - all gathered to talk about the hurt and pain of growing up without a father. Along with countless motivational appearances on the subject, Tunette has written “The Other Woman,” a bold and emotional memoir based on a sixteen-line rap written by the daughter of an addict. Powell's testimony of growing up with a father addicted to drugs and being labeled "at-risk," "broken," and "defeated" is a powerful message.
“My time at Oprah's Lifeclass was life changing,” Tunette says. “Right after the show a group of women walked up to my mother and me and asked how we healed. They asked for a copy of my book and for my contact information. One woman - the one who spoke about her father being addicted to drugs - reached out to me for help in healing and I feel like it's my duty to help her. People have read about the hurt and the pain. They need to see where I am now. More than that, they need to know how I got there. The past few years I've known that I was sent to help people. Being on Oprah's Lifeclass showed me who those people will be.”
“I'm taking everything I learned and experienced on the show to empower my local community. I am setting up workshops for daddyless daughters. I want to reach the young girls before they're women. Oprah's Lifeclass was a can opener. It opened my heart and my mind to what's next for me. I'm ready to work. And most of all, I'm ready to stand in the gap for women and girls who are daddyless!”
