St. Luke’s Physical Therapy Relocates Balance & Headache Center
Bethlehem, PA (PRWEB) July 10, 2013 -- St. Luke’s Physical Therapy has relocated its Balance & Headache Center to 1417 Eighth Ave. in Bethlehem, Pa. The center, which specializes in evaluating and treating patients with vertigo, dizziness, imbalance, abnormal walking, concussions, chronic headaches, migraines and cervicogenic headaches, is now accepting patients.
This facility features the NeuroCom Smart Balance Master®, which provides objective assessment and retraining of the sensory, motor, and vestibulo-ocular reflex system which control one’s balance. This computerized piece of equipment was originally used by NASA and is now used for both the assessment and treatment of people with balance dysfunctions, vertigo, and concussions.
At the Balance and Headache Center, therapists evaluate and treat headaches caused by musculoskeletal imbalances, often resulting from poor posture which can lead to tightness and trigger points in the muscles. The staff performs various manual therapy techniques, including trigger point release, followed by stretches and postural exercises. This helps decrease stress and strain on nerves, muscles, and joints, minimizing headaches as much as possible.
“We also treat primary effects from a concussion – inner ear (vestibular) dysfunction that can cause dizziness, vertigo, and imbalance. In addition, we treat the secondary effects from a mild head trauma (concussion), which includes headaches and neck pain,” said Maureen Gordon, MSPT, CEAS, St. Luke’s Physical Therapy Balance & Headache Center. “It’s uncommon to hit your head without involving the neck since the two are attached. Patients with a concussion have a lot of muscle tightness and trigger points. They are a major contributor to their headaches.”
The St. Luke’s Physical Therapy Balance & Headache Center is open on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Maureen Gordon has an advanced certification in the treatment of vestibular disorders. Staff at the facility will contact insurance companies to determine what is covered and whether or not an individual needs a physician’s prescription. St. Luke’s Physical Therapy offers a complimentary initial consultation. For more information on the Balance & Headache Center, call (484) 526-4781.
Previously, the Balance & Headache Center was located at 240 Union Station Plaza in Bethlehem.
