L-com's New Armored D-Subminiature Cables Resist Excessive Force Crushing
North Andover, MA (PRWEB) July 12, 2013 -- L-com, Inc., a designer and manufacturer of wired and wireless connectivity products, has introduced new armored D-Subminiature cable assemblies with either crush resistant metal or plastic armor around the cable. The new products are intended for industrial environments, where standard cables would be crushed due to excessive force.
Armored cables are not new to L-com, having launched armored HDMI and armored USB cables in August last year. The new D-Subminiature cables are designed using L-com's premium grade specifications, including double shielding (under the armor) and a custom steel box around the connector terminations. The plastic armored cables can withstand 800 psi (pounds per square inch) force, while the metal armored cables can withstand 1500 psi. So far, L-com has released both male to male and male to female versions with DB9 and DB15 connectors. They also have plastic armored DB25 cables, with metal armored versions expected to be released next month.
"Based on the success of our previous armored cables, we found that serial communication was also used in applications that would involve crushing damage," said Steve Smith, Product Manager. "We set out to design a solution for serial cables and I'm proud to release these as a result."
Some lengths of the new cables are already in stock at L-com's North Andover, MA, fulfillment center, and can be shipped right away. Other lengths are available for pre-order with expected ship dates in a few weeks. Detailed engineering drawings and 3D CAD models are available for free download from L-com's website.
