At the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) Annual Meeting in London on Monday, July 8, Joseph Conaghan, PhD, presented a paper on the use of time-lapse imaging for identifying abnormal embryos. The title of the 30-minute presentation is “Embryos with good morphology but abnormal cell divisions have significantly lower implantation potential.”
The laboratory director at Pacific Fertility Center (PFC), Dr. Conaghan first presented the paper at the Fertility Society of Australia (FSA) 2012 Annual Scientific Meeting in Auckland, New Zealand, where it won the ESHRE Exchange Award for the Best Scientific Paper. Sponsored by Ferring Pharmaceuticals, the award gave Dr. Conaghan the opportunity to re-present his winning paper at the 2013 ESHRE Annual Meeting, one of the world’s leading events in reproductive science and medicine.
In addition to this presentation, Dr. Conaghan will present a poster at ESHRE entitled “Dynamic assessment of early embryo fragmentation by time-lapse analysis may improve cell cycle timing-based embryo selection.” This study found that embryo selection may be improved by using time-lapse imaging to dynamically assess fragmentation, a key feature commonly associated with decreased embryo viability.
With more than 25 years of experience in human embryology, Dr. Conaghan has led an experienced team of embryologists at PFC’s state-of-the-art facilities for about 12 years.
