Newfoundland Dogs Greet Guests at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort & Spa
Bonita Springs, FL (PRWEB) July 12, 2013 -- Wagging tails and floppy ears now greet guests at Bonita Springs, Florida’s Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort & Spa as two 140 lb. Newfoundland dogs take their places at the front desk of this casually elegant resort.
“Our guests are thrilled when they see our canine greeters, Hoss & Honey Bear,” said Joe Murgalo, General Manager of the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort & Spa. “They exemplify the relaxed, family-friendly nature of the resort.”
Paula Greenfield, owner and handler, is very pleased at the initial reaction to Hoss & Honey Bear. “Traveling can be very stressful. Having dogs at the resort really changes people’s mood. We’ve had grown people lie down on the floor with Hoss and one little boy cuddled up with Honey Bear as his parents checked in,” she said. Paula and her husband Randy Greenfield have worked with the Hyatt Corporation for a combined total of 21 years, most recently in Austin, TX at the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort. Last month they made the move to Southwest Florida with Hoss & Honey Bear.
After a week of traveling and getting acclimated to their new location, the Greenfields are settling into their new positions quickly. Randy works in the resort’s engineering department, Paula and the dogs in recreation as animal concierge.
A hallmark of the Newfoundland breed is their sweet temperament, gentle nature and kindness to people. Both Hoss & Honey Bear have completed their obedience training at Triple Crown Dog Academy and received their AKC Canine Good Citizen Titles. “They’re very calm and obey a key set of commands,” Paula said. The dogs can be found at the front desk of the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort or walking the grounds with Paula periodically during the day.
Newfoundlands - or Newfies for short - were originally bred and used as working dogs for fishermen in Newfoundland, Canada. They are known for their giant size, tremendous strength, calm disposition and loyalty. Newfoundland dogs excel at water rescue and lifesaving because of their muscular build, thick double coat, powerful swimming abilities and webbed feet.
