Lipitor Multidistrict Litigation Moving Forward, Says Attorney
Houston, Texas (PRWEB) July 11, 2013 -- The Lipitor multidistrict litigation* is moving forward as planned, and oral arguments will be heard on July 25th to determine if the cases should be consolidated, reports Darren A. Miller of the Houston law firm D. Miller & Associates.
He notes that his firm continues to take cases as Lipitor lawsuit litigation progresses.
“The plaintiffs in the Lipitor multidistrict litigation are pushing for consolidation and transfer of the cases to the United States District Court of South Carolina,” Lipitor attorney Miller says. “A multidistrict litigation is a great way of handling these kinds of cases, because it promotes efficiency in the court system but also allows each plaintiff to have their voice heard. It is really the best of both worlds.”
He notes that statin drugs like Lipitor are prescribed to lower LDL (low-density lipoprotein or “bad”) cholesterol levels. Lipitor is one of the top sellers in the cholesterol drug market, bringing in almost $4 billion in revenues last year for Pfizer, according to the company’s annual report **.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration became aware of a potential problem with Lipitor and on February 28, 2012 required labeling changes for the product, to include “important new safety information,” including the increased risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes in women after taking the drug*** .
“Although the FDA’s warning was helpful, it might have been too little too late for many female consumers,” says Lipitor lawyer Miller. “Diabetes is a lifelong disease that can result in many further complications and required lifestyle changes, including strict diet restrictions, daily blood testing, and prescription medications.”
“Those potentially subject to compensation are post-menopausal women who have developed Type 2 diabetes after taking Lipitor,” he adds. “D. Miller & Associates, PLLC is ready to assist those who may have been harmed by this drug in getting the relief they rightly deserve.”
