Paralympic Gold Medalist Jeremy Campbell has been Nominated for a Prestigious ESPY Award
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) July 11, 2013 -- US Paralympic Gold Medalist Jeremy Campbell is in the running for a 2013 ESPY Award voting ends in one week. The Factory Agency is encouraging people to vote for Campbell prior to the July 17th deadline. He is competing in the category “Best Male Athlete with a Disability.”
ESPY, or Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly Awards have been handed out since 1993 by the sports network ESPN to recognize individuals and teams for their athletic achievements during the previous year. Athletes are selected by the ESPY Select Nominating Committee and voting is then opened up via online ballots. Voting is open to the general public as well as sports industry experts.
“It's such an honor to be nominated for this years ESPY award for Best Male Athlete With A Disability. I am excited and grateful to be up for the award along with so many other great athletes. I wasn’t expecting it this time around, and I’m overwhelmed that my ground-breaking performance was recognized as one of the best. Congratulations to all the other nominees,” Campbell said.
Born without a right fibula Campbell spent most of his youth competing against able-bodied athletes in his hometown of Perryton, Texas. He became an All-State football player in high school and has since gone on to become a world class athlete for the U.S. National Track & Field Paralympic Team.
Campbell took home multiple gold medals at the 2008 Paralympic games in Beijing and went on to break the world record in the American Discus F44 four times at the 2012 London Games. He became the first Paralympic athlete to throw more than 60 meters. He is now actively training for the 2016 Rio Paralympics but is also working to qualify and compete in the Olympic Games.
When not training or competing Campbell uses his time to give back to the community and spends his days as a role model and mentor for others with disabilities in order to show them their full potential in and out of sports. “No dream is ever too big or out of reach,” Campbell said.
This year’s ceremony will take place at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on July 17 and will be hosted by Jon Hamm. The event will be broadcast live on ESPN at 9 p.m. EST. To vote for Jeremy please visit http://espn.go.com/espys/2013/.
