Middletown, OH (PRWEB) July 12, 2013
Since its beginning in 2003 the Middletown Balloon Festival (Ohio Challenge) has been a great family friendly event. This year is sure to be no different. The event will be held July 12th, 13th, and 14th, in Middletown’s Smith Park, which is adjacent to the Middletown Regional Airport. The festival will have something fun for everyone, including hot air balloon rides, skydiving shows by Team Fastrax, Murray Brothers Carnival, crafts, live music and much more.
Middletown has been a hub for hot air balloon enthusiasts since the U.S. National Hot Air Balloon Championships were held there in 1992, 1993 and 1994. According to the official Ohio Challenge website, the community expressed an interest in having future balloon events held in Middletown. The Ohio Challenge is in response to that interest and centers on a significant hot air balloon competition which draws many of the best pilots in the country. The Ohio Challenge is a public/private partnership, and the purpose of the event is to bring positive attention to the City of Middletown while including non-profit organizations in a way that they may add to their own treasuries.
“We have been sponsoring this event for years”, said Jim Boeddeker, President of Selection.com. “It’s a perfect opportunity to support local businesses and keep jobs in our area. A couple members of our staff are even part of the skydiving shows by Team Fastrax.”
Parking will be $10 per vehicle and available through the airport entrance. After parking, a shuttle will be available to transport guests to the entrance of Smith Park. A trackless train will also offer rides from designated stops inside the park. There will be a splash pad for cooling off, and dining tent where guests can get out of the sun. Bleacher seating will be available in the stage area and guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on. Each evening of the festival will include a competitive hot air balloon launch.
Friday night will be topped off with a special fireworks display, compliments of Start Skydiving. Come early and enjoy the entire day of fun, food and, of course, hot air balloons. Morning balloon flights are held on Saturday and Sunday mornings 7-10 am. Morning flights are free with on-site parking. The event ends after the Sunday morning flight.
