Senator Angus King Discusses Debt and Deficit During Latest Meeting of Fix the Debt’s ‘Debtfast’ Discussion Series
Washington, DC (PRWEB) July 12, 2013 -- Senator Angus King (I-ME) addressed the latest meeting of the Campaign to Fix the Debt’s “Debtfast” breakfast discussion series. Senator King, a key player in the continuing efforts to identify common ground for a bipartisan and comprehensive deal to reduce the deficit and begin controlling the debt, brought valuable insight to the conversation regarding the legislative landscape and what he thinks can be expected in the coming months.
“I was a pleased to participate in this morning’s Fix the Debt breakfast discussion and to meet with so many people from across the political spectrum who share a mutual concern for the fiscal health of our nation,” Senator King said. “Though there seem to be many obstacles in the pathway to a budget conference, I remain hopeful that key areas of agreement on federal spending priorities – in particular, the need to control the growth of health care expenditures – will produce a bipartisan solution to help put our long-term deficits on a lasting downward trajectory, and I will certainly continue to work toward that goal.”
The Debtfast series is an informal gathering of individuals representing organizations from across the political spectrum, all of whom are stakeholders in the ongoing debate about the country’s fiscal future. Co-hosted by the Honorable Jim Nussle and Dr. Alice Rivlin, the regularly held breakfast meetings are intended to educate, inform, and spark productive and civil discussion around substantive issues pertaining to the unsustainable trajectory of the national debt.
