Former Political Prisoner Stands in Solidarity with US Prison Hunger Strikes
Ojai, CA (PRWEB) July 13, 2013 -- Join Robert King is the only free member of the Angola 3 for a screening of "In the Land of the Free" at the Ojai Playhouse: 145 East Ojai Ave., Ojai, CA on Saturday, July 13th at 4PM, in an event sponsored by KPFK and Good Karma PR and hosted by Dedon Kamathi. The film and subsequent discussion will focus on the torture endured by prisoners in extended solitary confinement and the legacy of the Angola 3 who support the goals of the California statewide prison hunger strike, where over 30,000 prisoners are refusing food.
The Angola 3 are no strangers to initiating hunger strikes and utilizing this strategy as a medium for negotiating change. In the early 70’s, the Angola 3 and prisoners in Louisiana participated in hunger strikes in order to challenge the inhuman conditions they were imprisoned under. Again in the late 90’s, Herman, Albert and Robert were sent to the notorious Camp J at Angola Prison because of their participation in a hunger strike.
