Westinghouse Will Continue to Provide Nuclear Fuel in Germany for E.ON Kernkraft Plants
BRUSSELS (PRWEB) July 15, 2013 -- Westinghouse Electric Company today announced that E.ON Kernkraft GmbH will exercise an option in an existing contract for additional deliveries of replacement fuel assemblies for its nuclear power plants in Germany, extending the original 2012 contract for additional replacement deliveries to 2016 and 2017.
Under terms of the contract, Westinghouse will produce the fuel at its fabrication facility in Västerås, Sweden.
Westinghouse Vice President and Managing Director for Northern Europe Johan Hallén, said: “This contract option execution reinforces our long-standing relationship and cooperation with E.ON Kernkraft. We believe this most recent decision by E.ON Kernkraft recognizes the excellent performance of our fuel technologies and reconfirms our strong position in the pressurized water reactor market.”
Westinghouse has been one of the main suppliers of fuel to E.ON Kernkraft nuclear power plants Brokdorf, Grafenrheinfeld, Grohnde and Isar 2 since the early 1990s.
Westinghouse is a single-source fuel provider for pressurized, boiling and advanced gas-cooled reactors worldwide and has 10 fuel manufacturing locations around the world, including two manufacturing sites in Europe: Springfields Fuels Limited (Preston, Lancashire, U.K.) and Westinghouse Electric Sweden (Västerås, Sweden). Westinghouse is currently providing fuel for 168 nuclear power plants worldwide.
