The SLCC Center for New Media to Receive Eccles Grant for $100,000
Salt Lake City, UT (PRWEB) July 12, 2013 -- Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) is receiving a $100,000 grant from the George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Foundation to help fund the Center for New Media (CFNM). The donation from the Foundation will be used specifically to help finish The Community Gallery for the Contemporary Digital Arts.
The Community Gallery will house four unique spaces. A Community Art Gallery will showcase student, community, and professional artwork from around the Salt Lake valley. An enormous Arts and Culture Events Hall will be open to public gatherings, and will host many large-scale community and school events. The auditorium will feature a Digital Multiuse Display Gallery, a unique way to teach and display art. The Community Gallery will also showcase the Grand Theatre for large-scale productions for the entire community.
“The Center of New Media will be the cultural and artistic gathering place for SLCC and the community,” said Rachel Colledge, Development officer at SLCC. “It was built to meet the needs of our students, including industry standard equipment, studios, theaters, and lab spaces. It will have an immeasurable impact on student and community artistic collaboration in the future.”
The CFNM will add 140,000 square feet to the South City Campus, located at 1575 S State Street in Salt Lake City. The project is scheduled to be completed September 2013.
