David Gergen, President of Pro Player Health Alliance and Gergen's Orthodontic Lab, Becomes a Part of the NFL HOPE Program
Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) July 14, 2013 -- Pro Player Health Alliance (PPHA) has set out on a national campaign titled "Tackle Sleep Apnea" which is intended to raise awareness on sleep apnea in our nation. David Gergen, President of PPHA and Gergen's Orthodontic Lab, is a national leader in the fight against sleep apnea. Because of his efforts, over 160 former NFL players have been treated for sleep apnea and hundreds more from the general public have been referred to doctors as patients across the country.
Recently, Pro Player Health Alliance teamed up with the NFL's HOPE Program Sponsored by Covidien and two Vikings all-time greats, Carl Eller and Chuck Foreman, at an event to get the community medical teams working together to support care for former NFL greats. The goal of this partnership is to maintain overall good health among the players by treating their sleep apnea and ultimately positively impacting their weight. A Mayo Clinic study shows over 60% of former NFL players suffer from sleep apnea, which proves the need for groups such as these to rally together and show support. The study can be found at http://www.mayoclinic.org.
The HOPE program is an obesity management awareness program aimed at healthy lifestyles and weight management for retired professional football players. NFL players are more likely to have cardiovascular and other health problems than smaller sized men.
Treating sleep apnea can be a huge factor in managing the weight of an individual particularly in reducing body weight from an unhealthy state by giving a way for more energy during the day. By staying active, one is able to burn more calories and keep their weight at a manageable size.
By forming an alliance with the NFL HOPE program, PPHA hopes to grow closer to achieving their main objective which is to get as many players treated as possible and improve their overall health while getting people to follow in their footsteps.
