Slicebooks, an innovative startup by EarlyAccess with a publishing platform for slicing & remixing content, an iTunes-style retail platform and the world’s first eBook Remix Widget, announced today that it has raised a round of seed funding from ICG Ventures Inc., an Ingram Content Group company.

“In addition to receiving this seed funding from Ingram, any publisher that has integrated with Ingram Content Group’s CoreSource® digital asset management platform has the option to have their files delivered to us for slicing,” said Slicebooks CEO Jill Tomich. “It's easy for any publisher to upload content for slicing, but those publishers who have their content on the CoreSource platform can simply request files be sent to Slicebooks. It is a seamless process. Over 90 publishers to date have already signed up to use Slicebooks.”

SLICEBOOKS HELPS PUBLISHERS IMPROVE DISCOVERABILITY

Publishers are facing a fast-changing environment of fewer sales channels and an increasingly crowded cloud, making discoverability more challenging than ever. Slicebooks and the upcoming Slicebooks Store were designed to help publishers repurpose and remonetize existing content, improve content discoverability and help publishers compete with the Internet. CLOUD-BASED SaaS HELPS PUBLISHERS SLICE, REMIX AND PUBLISH

Using Slicebooks’ elegant web interface, publishers can quickly slice and remix front- and back-list titles into marketable packages. It is easy to slice one book, a few, or even thousands in batches. Sliced content such as chapters and sections can be priced and sold individually online, published automatically on the Slicebooks Store, used to instantly create custom remixes, or can be downloaded by the publisher to distribute through their own sales channels. They can also be used to cross-market the entire catalog. And the powerful Publisher Dashboard gives publishers detailed control over book metadata, making distribution of slices and remixes easy.

SLICEBOOKS STORE (UPCOMING) WILL BE FIRST TO ENABLE CONSUMER REMIXING

In another ground-breaking development, the Slicebooks Store (scheduled for launch in Q3) includes the world’s first eBook Remix Widget, which gives consumers the ability to drag-and-drop sliced content from any number of books to instantly create their own custom ebooks. Teachers can instantly create course packs, travelers can create custom travel guides, crafters can remix patterns, programmers can grab just the tutorials they need. The eBook Remix Widget brings the kind of choice and flexibility to ebook buyers that music buyers have had for years. Any content uploaded to Slicebooks can be included in the eBook Remix Widget and made available for consumers to purchase and use in custom remixes.
