Team Lloyd Irvin Female Nyjah Easton Wins Double Gold at NY Summer Open
New York, NY (PRWEB) July 15, 2013 -- This past weekend Team Lloyd Irvin traveled north to compete in the International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) New York Summer Open Championship. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu teams from all over the east coast travel to City College New York in Harlem to test their skills. Team Lloyd Irvin took 27 competitors, from white belt to black belt, male and female. Of the 27, Team Lloyd Irvin brought home 11 Gold medals and several silver and bronze medals, including a double gold in the women’s black belt division.
Team Lloyd Irvin Medal Chasers include BJJ champion Nyjah Easton, who won both the Women’s Black Belt Featherweight division and the Women’s Black Belt Absolute division. Nyjah is also Team Lloyd Irvin’s very first Brazilian Jiu Jitsu World Champion and first Team Lloyd Irvin female Black Belt. In the Featherweight division finals Nyjah faced Jen Petrina of Team Alliance Marcelo Garcia in an exciting and high paced matched scored 11 to 2 in Nyjah's favor, to earn the first gold of her day.
Later in the Women’s Black Belt open weight division Nyjah would need two wins to become double gold champion of the NY Summer Open. First, Nyjah would face Bibiana Dos Tan Pacini of Brazilian Top Team. The match got off to a blazing start, with Nyjah pulling guard and quickly submitting Pacini with a triangle/armbar. In the finals, Nyjah Easton again defeated Jen Petrina, this time with a quick mounted triangle/armbar to secure her first double gold black belt championship.
Says Nyjah, “I’ve been training very hard for this. At every belt level I was always trying to get that double gold, and finally today I was able to accomplish that goal. Thanks a lot to Team Lloyd Irvin and Master Lloyd for helping me prepare for this.”
When Nyjah is not training for Jiu Jitsu tournaments, she is teaching an all-women’s mma fitness class at Team Lloyd Irvin in Camp Springs, MD. She is also an mma consultant and advisor for students at the academy.
Look out for Nyjah Easton, as she looks to compete in more IBJJF sactioned events in preparation for No Gi Worlds this November. Before that, Nyjah plans to compete in Atlanta, Boston, and other tournaments.
