Explore Tibet Announces Trips to Holy Mount Kailash
(PRWEB) July 15, 2013 -- Explore Tibet, a Lhasa-based tour company, is currently promoting trips to Holy Mt. Kailash in western Tibet. They offer trips for 13 to 20 days, including a trip to the ruins of the ancient Guge kingdom.
“Mt. Kailash is sacred to Hindus, Buddhists, and Bon,” Explore Tibet have said. “Pilgrims travel from all over the world to circumambulate the mountain and erase the sins of a lifetime. Our spiritual trekking tour combines visits to Tibet’s most important cultural sites with the natural beauty of the Tibetan Plateau and the Himalayas.”
Kailash’s 6,174-meter snowcapped peak stands prominent over the Barkha Plain, flanking the sacred lakes Manasarovar and Rakshas Tal. The distinctive shape of its four-sided summit stands stark against the Gangdise mountain range, also called the Trans Himalaya, the home for sparse lone nomads whose lifestyle remains close to what it has been for centuries.
This area is source of four of the longest rivers in Asia, the Indus, the Sutlej (a tributary of the Indus), the Karnali (a tributary of the Ganges), and the Brahmaputra. The remote, pristine location, along with these singular geographic features makes it easy to understand why Tibetan Buddhists believe Kailash to be the center of the world.
Guge was an ancient kingdom in Western Tibet. Dating from the 9th century, the ruins of the kingdom’s former capital are located not far from Mount Kailash and 1,200 miles (1,900 km) westwards from Lhasa.
“The ruins of ancient cities and temples are unparallel wonders of the trip,” Explore Tibet have said. “Some temples are still intact and contain delicate murals and artistic motifs with 1,000 years history.”
