RFU Recommendation Highlights Importance of Insurance
(PRWEB UK) 17 July 2013 -- The Rugby Football Union has recommended that all amateur rugby teams and players should consider additional insurance cover before stepping onto the field. In a statement on the insurance section of the official RFU website, it clarifies that the RFU insurance policy “only covers permanent total disability as summarised…It is recommended that additional personal protection should always be considered.” Temporary injury, such as breakages and sprains, loss of earnings, medical expenses and legal expenses are not covered by the policy, and therefore it is important that all amateur teams and players seek additional insurance cover. insure4sport is the UK’s leading specialist sport insurer, and their bespoke rugby policies can provide this additional insurance cover. Moreover, if you buy an insure4sport policy before the end of October, you will be entered into a prize draw to win two tickets with corporate hospitality to the England vs. New Zealand Autumn international.
Rugby can be the cause of both minor and serious injuries and it is therefore essential that if you play within an amateur team you make sure you are protected. A survey by Barclays Spaces for Sports found that an average of 22 million sporting injuries occur per year, and rugby was ranked the second most likely cause an injury after football. Another recent survey found that the most common types of injuries were muscular injuries – such as sprains – or ligament injuries. Under the RFU policy, those injuries would not be covered, and whilst some may seem minor, injuries can leave you with expensive medical bills or even prevent you from going to work. In fact, a Scottish study of an amateur rugby season found that more than a third of players had been absent from work or college for at least one day due to a rugby related injury.
Sir Clive Woodward, insure4sport’s Ambassador recalls “I remember as a student I broke my leg playing for Loughborough University in the Twickenham Sevens. It was a bad break as well, I was out for nearly 4 months, but it was a complete accident – the fact is that accidents do happen. Personal Accident insurance can give you the peace of mind that if you do get injured you can have access to rehabilitation facilities such as physios to look after you and get you back on the field of play having recovered properly, and back to work quickly.”
John Woosey, Managing Director of insure4sport, the UK’s leading specialist sport insurer, commented “For such a high profile sport, it is staggering how many people train and play rugby without adequate insurance. We are pleased that the RFU is encouraging all teams and players to think about insurance and to make sure that they are covered adequately for their needs.”
It is not just players and coaches who need insurance though – integral to every Rugby Club is the clubhouse. A clubhouse policy will provide you with buildings and assets cover, if your club has employees the policy can provide you with employer’s liability insurance. insure4sport also offer cover for portable items, consequential loss, money, frozen food, fidelity and loss of licence. insure4sport Ambassador Clive Woodward has first-hand experience of where this can really matter. “So many things can happen, from balls going through windows, water damage, vandalism or fire - in fact in Cookham our local cricket club’s pavilion burnt down recently – so it’s so important for all clubs, regardless of the sport, to get a proper insurance on all of their facilities.”
insure4sport, the preferred insurance partner of Pitchero, have rewritten the rules when it comes to rugby insurance. Their fixed-price specialist policies provide a simple solution with the option of adding any additional cover you require, meaning that the standard policy is cheaper than all other leading rugby insurers. All customers will receive a 5 per cent discount when purchasing their policy online. Moreover, insure4sport can offer three different levels of personal accident cover, and the option to include loss of earnings cover. With bespoke clubhouse insurance policies available as well, insure4sport provides an all-round insurance solution for clubs, teams and players.
