CloudLinux Adds PHP Selector for DirectAdmin and Plesk
Princeton, NJ (PRWEB) July 15, 2013 -- Innovative shared hosting operating system (OS) developer CloudLinux (http://www.cloudlinux.com), announced today the latest version of PHP Selector, which is now compatible with DirectAdmin and Plesk. PHP Selector, which has been functional for some time through cPanel, allows shared hosting companies to offer multiple versions of PHP to each customer, and lets customers change their chosen version and modules instantly. Now, more CloudLinux users can take advantage of this impressive tool.
“Since we launched PHP Selector, we have received great responses from our customers,” says Igor Seletskiy, Founder and CEO at CloudLinux. “Customers running CloudLinux with cPanel found a variety of applications for the PHP Selector tool, from testing software in different PHP environments to maintaining support for legacy applications. It was only a matter of time before we brought this CloudLinux component to the rest of our community and, today, people can start using PHP Selector with cPanel, DirectAdmin, and Parallels Plesk Panel.”
CloudLinux is an operating system (OS) optimized for shared web hosting. The OS locates shared hosting accounts in individual containers, known as “Lightweight Virtual Environments,” which can limit how resources such as RAM, CPU, and disk I/O are used. In addition to making servers more stable and eliminating the “bad neighbor” effect, CloudLinux comes complete with useful tools including PHP Selector. PHP Selector can be activated on end-user control panels, allowing customers to select a preferred PHP version and related modules. PHP Selector acts as a convenient interface that is an easier option than manually editing a php.ini file.
The ability to select PHP versions is ideal for customers using old web applications that are not compatible with more recent PHP versions. Many developers use PHP Selector in staging environments to test compatibility across different PHP releases.
“PHP Selector is easy to use for shared hosting customers,” says Seletskiy. “With our latest release, it integrates effectively with cPanel, Parallels Plesk Panel, and DirectAdmin, on any server. While PHP Selector is an excellent way for hosts to give customers a more flexible hosting service, it is also an essential tool for hosting providers that want to take control over how PHP is used on their servers.”
CloudLinux administrators can use PHP Selector to configure PHP settings and allow or deny access to specific PHP versions on a per account basis. This enables hosts to force use of certain modules, while eliminating the use of others altogether. In addition, PHP Selector can be used to change the default and active versions of PHP for every user, and across the same server. The latest release of PHP Selector is fully compatible with cPanel, Plesk, and DirectAdmin, and now includes support for PHP versions 4.9, 5.1, 5.3, 5.4 and 5.5. With extensive support and flexible options for administrators and webmasters, PHP Selector has become popular in the web hosting community.
“We have tried DirectAdmin’s own PHP selector, but the CloudLinux version is much better,” says Martin Persson, Second Line Support at Ballou Hosting Intelligence. “Our customers say they have been looking for this function for a long time. It works great and customers often use the CloudLinux PHP Selector when building a new site and testing it with different PHP versions. Now, with support available on more control panels, more web hosts should take advantage of what PHP Selector can do for their customers.”
Since CloudLinux was first released, it has grown to include several must-have tools that go beyond the core of the OS. As these features continue to be developed, refined, and rolled out to new platforms, there are more reasons than ever to start using CloudLinux.
