Bluffton South Carolina Golf Communities

The Big Debate Series

As the crisp fall season approaches, buyers searching for superb golf communities in Bluffton often start by exploring Colleton River Plantation, Berkeley Hall and Belfair. All three are located off Highway 278 which is the main corridor to and from Hilton Head Island. What's shiny and new at these established prestigious golf clubs?

Berkeley Hall - Renovation of the greens on the north golf course are now underway and are expected to be completed in September.

Colleton River Plantation - The relatively new opening of the Jack Nicklaus Clubhouse and enhancements to the Pete Dye Clubhouse are complete.

Very few homes can be seen from the Berkeley Hall golf course which was what golf course designer Tom Fazio intended. He said “Golf the way it was meant to be played--a walk in the park, versus a ride through a subdivision."  It’s also the only residential golf course community in the country with two Tom Fazio Core Courses (a minimal number of homes visible from the golf course). Belfair is known among coastal South Carolina communities as having some of the friendliest members. The club offers extensive golf programs and tournaments for women and men. Its active membership has too many clubs and civic organizations to begin to name.

The two Tom Fazio golf courses are adjacent to scenic Hidden Lake and finish with a dramatic tee shot over the marshes of the Colleton River. The West Course is commonly regarded as one of the most beautiful courses in the Lowcountry.
