City Bike Designer Linus Bike Comments on San Francisco’s New Bicycle Sharing Program
Bohemia, NY (PRWEB) July 17, 2013 -- On June 17, city bike designer Linus Bike comments on San Francisco’s new bicycle sharing program.
According to a July 13th, 2013 article published on Forbes.com, entitled, “San Francisco Prepares For Bike Sharing As More Cities Hop On,” the city of San Francisco’s new bicycle sharing program, Bay Area Bike Share, opened for memberships this past weekend with an expected launch next month. An annual membership costs $88, a three-day pass costs $22 and a 24-hour pass costs $9. The bicycle-sharing program will cover a wide area, including San Francisco, Redwood City, Mountain View, Palo Alto and San Jose. The program is planned to have 70 stations with 700 bikes.
Bicycle sharing programs have been popping up nationwide. New York City launched their program, Citi Bike, on Memorial Day with approximately 330 stations across Manhattan and Brooklyn. Chicago’s system, Divvy Bikes, just passed the two-week anniversary of its launch, already recording 25,000 trips and San Diego is slated to introduce its own bicycle sharing project in 2014.
Jason Latty, a representative of Linus Bike, a city bike designer, discusses the many benefits that stem from a bicycle sharing program. “Bicycle sharing programs are great for cities for a number of different reasons. They are good for the environment.
“Emissions being released into the atmosphere will diminish if more residents choose to ride or commute by bike as opposed to driving. Also, it has been proven that bicyclists are much more likely to stop and buy things in stores than those who drive because of convenience, providing a financial benefit. Bicycle sharing programs are a great way to get cycling initiatives started in cities and we commend the city of San Francisco for creating a system for its residents.”
