Piper Kerman Author Of Orange is the New Black and The Inspiration of a New Original Series on Netflix Talks in Sarder TV
New York, NY (PRWEB) July 18, 2013 -- Sarder TV, the learning channel created by Russell Sarder, recently launched a video of an interview of Piper Kerman, author of the new book, “Orange is the New Black” the inspiration for a new original series on Netflix. The book details Piper’s experience as an inmate of the Federal prison system and what she learned about the problems associated with rehabilitation. Jill Johnson, the CEO of the Institute for Entrepreneurial Leadership and the CEO of the Workshop for Business Opportunities (WBO) spoke with Piper Kerman as she discusses the importance and need for programs to help inmates prepare for the reentering the outside world.
The Institute for Entrepreneurial Leadership and the Workshop for Business Opportunities work with those that have been incarcerated providing them with training in entrepreneurial skills and also providing mentoring through the process.
In this provocative and inspirational interview, Piper states that the current correctional system views their responsibilities solely as confinement of prisoners and not rehabilitation and that this means that most people when they get out have little or no options in terms of finding legitimate work. According to Piper it is too late to work on reentering the work force when you leave the prison gate. She believes that getting prepared for gainful employment and becoming contributing members of society should happen when individuals first enter the prison system.
“We are pleased to be able to produce this very important video with Jill Johnson and Piper Kerman as they discuss the need for education for those that have been incarcerated and difficulties they face when trying to reenter the workforce,” said Russell Sarder, CEO of Sarder TV.
Piper Kerman was a highly educated and experienced working professional when she entered the prison system which according to her has made her reentry into the workforce very different than it is for the majority of former women inmates. She was able to maintain her support system of friends, family and coworkers while in prison and came home to a new job in the marketing field upon her release. This is not the typical situation for former women inmates who often have little education and no real marketable skills. She also talks about the hunger for opportunity and education that exists within the walls of jails and prisons and that she is looking for organizations that will partner with the correctional system to offer educational opportunities for inmates.
The video with Piper Kerman is a slightly new direction for Sarder TV, the learning channel which is dedicated to providing inside business knowledge from industry executives with the public. Sarder TV was launched to provide professionals with advice on business and life offered through a series of high profile interviews with educational and business leaders.
