Deep Creek 2014 and Garrett Lakes Arts Festival Set to Unveil Mural Celebrating Upcoming World Championships
(PRWEB) July 19, 2013 -- Deep Creek 2014 and the Garrett Lakes Arts Festival will unveil a special mural created by summer art students at a reception on Friday, July 19, at Garrett College.
The mural, made from individually painted tiles using an image of whitewater racing, is being created by students in GLAF’s Young Artists’ Workshop under the instruction of artist Laura Stutzman. The image was taken at the Adventure Sports Center International (ASCI) in McHenry during this year’s US Team Trials and Deep Creek Open.
Each student in the workshop will paint an 11”x11” square that will be pieced together to make the completed mural that celebrates next year’s world whitewater championships being held in Garrett County. The reception and unveiling will take place at 6:00 p.m. in the Garrett College Art Room and Gallery, Room 721, on the campus located on Mosser Road.
“We’re very pleased to team up with the Garrett Lakes Arts Festival in a way that promotes both organizations,” said Todd Copley, executive director of Deep Creek 2014.
“Finding a way to bring sports and art together is exciting for GLAF and for the students,” said Stutzman.
