MedMar Healing Center Announces No Price Increase, Despite San Jose Tax Hike
(PRWEB) July 18, 2013 -- MedMar Healing Center, located in downtown San Jose, announces they will not increase the price of their medical marijuana products, despite San Jose raising taxes. The cost for their medicine will remain what it was prior to the new tax implemented by the city. Recently, the city raised the imposed tax from seven to 10 percent.
“We realize that this additional tax could be a deterrent to those who are in need of medical cannabis,” explains Douglas Chloupek of MedMar Healing Center. “We do our best to keep our cannabis products affordable so that more people will have access to them when they need them. We want our members to know that the new tax will not raise the price of our medicine at all.”
The new tax increase imposed by San Jose officials comes as a result of a California Supreme Court ruling in May. The ruling gives local governments more authority over the regulation of collectives and dispensaries, including the ability to increase taxes, and creating zoning laws. The new tax increase took effect on June 4, 2013 and is slated to bring the total tax collected the city receives to around $5.4 million.
MedMar Healing Center has vowed to maintain current prices, despite the tax increase, on their wide variety of cannabis products. This includes flowers, concentrates, tinctures, and more, all available to Prop 215 patients. They even offer edibles, such as brownies, rice crispy bars, honey, chocolate, suckers, and Texas toast.
“Our members are important to us and we want them to know this tax will not impact them,” added Chloupek. “This is just one more way that we want to show our members that we appreciate their continued support of our center.”
