Thomas Hoey of Long Island Banana Corp. Defends Nutritional Quality of Fruit

According to Thomas Hoey, Sass’ observation in the article shine a light on some of the more important nutritional aspects of fruit—which may prove surprising to many dieters. For example, the article explains, “[Research] has found that people who eat more servings of fruit have lower BMIs, even more so than veggie eaters. Scientists aren't sure why, but it may be because fruits tend to replace higher calorie goodies and treats, whereas veggies tend to be add-ons…In addition, emerging research indicates that consuming more produce is tied to smaller waist measurements and lower body fat percentages, even without taking in fewer calories, meaning that the quality of your calories is key.”
In addition to this observation, the ABC News article reveals that many fruits contain water, fiber and antioxidants that can drastically improve health. Fruits can also provide an exceptional array of “beauty benefits” and are known to provide “endurance-boosting” energy.” While most fruits are recognized to have some important nutritional qualities, Hoey adds that it is important to have a varied diet as the benefits of each produce item can vary.
“Bananas are a great example of how diverse the nutritional qualities of a fruit can be. For example, they contain more carbohydrates, vitamin A, iron and phosphorous than an apple provides. In addition, they can be used as a cooking substitute for those who are looking to need to stay away from cholesterol,” Thomas Hoey concludes.
