Dr. Trevor Born Featured in August 2013 Issue of Vogue in Article "Rethinking the Facelift"
Toronto, Ontario (PRWEB) July 19, 2013 -- Dr. Trevor Born, renowned plastic surgeon with practices in Toronto and New York, has been featured in the current issue of Vogue magazine in an article entitled "Rethinking the Facelift" by Sandra Ballantine. The article examines surgical innovations that are revolutionizing "the facelift" and inspiring people to reconsider their options when it comes to facial rejuvenation.
Dr. Born is among an elite group of surgeons who were consulted for the article and are known for their envelope pushing approach to facelift surgery and aesthetics. Along with his peers Dr. Sherrell Aston, Dr. Jason Diamond, and Dr. Chia Chi Kao, Dr. Born is considered a leader in the practice of facelift surgery and is known for his exceptional, highly customized and detailed work in the area of face and neck lifts.
The article describes "...traditional lifts (that) rely on one big pull to iron out lines and hoist everything skyward..." This is an accurate, albeit overly simplified description of the techniques that were once used for facelift surgery. In the past “the traditional facelift” focused mainly on the tensioning or "tightening" of the skin; whereas "the modern facelift" technique work to restore the original, more youthful facial shape. "Many people refer to the “wind tunnel” look of facelifts performed in the 1980’s – that just doesn’t happen anymore if a surgeon is aware of the modern techniques and practicing them correctly." Dr. Born explains.
The modern facelift is a multi-faceted surgery that involves several different techniques and steps, including micro fat grafting, deep layer tissue shaping and tightening, and then the final re-draping and tightening of the skin. The results of a facelift that incorporates these techniques are much more undetectable and "natural" looking to the human eye. Patients look rested and refreshed, not overly pulled or "tight." This is the ultimate goal when Dr. Born is tailoring his surgical plan for facelift patients:
"We want to avoid a 'done' look at all costs. The Modern Facelift is more painstaking and involves more time, but the end is result is beautiful. The incisions are closed in such a way so that you never see any tension on the skin, you don't see the signs that might indicate that you've had work done."
In the Vogue article, writer Sandra Ballantine describes seeing "Before & After" images of Dr. Born's patients, "Fanned out in front of me was an array of women in their 40's, 50's and 60's who simply looked like way better versions of their former selves - fresher, younger, natural."
As people are living longer, working longer, and defying the typical definition of "retirement," facial rejuvenation has continued to grow in popularity and this demand has given rise to the new and improved techniques practiced by Dr. Born and his aforementioned coleagues. Dr. Born welcomes the increasing interest and thinks the growing surge in facial surgery is here to stay:
"Baby boomers have changed everything. They want to look as good as they feel, and everything seems to indicate they are feeling better than ever. Thankfully, we have these new facial rejuvenation techniques, and other new options in cosmetic procedures so that we can successfully meet the demands of a population that wants to keep looking good well into their senior years."
