Impact Investor and Advocate for Sustainable Agriculture Discusses the Process of Making Food Banks Healthier
New York, NY (PRWEB) July 19, 2013 -- On July 19, impact investor and advocate of sustainable agriculture, Philippe van den Bossche, discusses the process of making food banks healthier.
According to a July 8, 2013 article published on Cornucopia.org, entitled, “Farm-to-Fork: Making Food Banks Healthier,” the Sacramento Food Bank, located in Sacramento, California, is providing families with fresh organic produce. CEO Blake Young and his staff “forged partnerships with local farmers, most of them organic, and upped the amount of fresh produce to more than half of clients’ food allotment.”
Families can choose from a variety of different fresh produce: carrots, kale, tomatoes, spinach, cabbage, squash and whatever else is in season.
Philippe van den Bossche, an impact investor and advocate for sustainable agriculture, commends the Sacramento Food Bank for their services. “Most of the families that the Sacramento Food Bank serves live in areas with a scarcity of food and transportation. This food bank provides these clients with healthy alternatives to the highly-processed foods that are normally distributed in food banks across the U.S. As awareness of sustainable farming spreads, this trend of offering fresh produce in food banks will hopefully continue to grow.”
In addition to the Sacramento Food Bank, Young and his staff are looking to establish one of the country’s first farm-to-fork food banks by using “100 percent local growers, up from three-quarters.”
Other Californian food banks, located in Sacramento and Los Angeles, are working on their own initiatives to provide fresh produce to the families they serve.
Philippe van den Bossche is an impact entrepreneur, impact investor and Chairman/ Owner of Advancing Eco Agriculture (AEA), a leading organic agricultural consulting and manufacturing company located in Middlefield, Ohio. AEA provides consulting services and specialty nutritional materials to farms throughout the United States and Canada. Mr. van den Bossche is an advocate for organic farming and agriculture.
