Buffalo Bill Center of the West’s New Name Reflected Front and Center on Its Building
Cody, WY (PRWEB) July 18, 2013 -- Executive Director and CEO of the Buffalo Bill Center of the West Bruce Eldredge states, “Our new name, its presentation signage, and the branding messages are an important step in positioning the Center to reach a wide range of audiences, and both are based on specific audience research. Onsite visitors will see new signs and a new graphic look when they come to the Center.”
The new brand doesn’t end with the front of the building; the whole facility will be updated with the new look. Soon, the Center’s Web team plan to update its Web site, creating an entirely new image of the Center online.
The new brand focuses on “Center” because it is the hub of five very different and prestigious museums: Buffalo Bill Museum, Plains Indian Museum, Whitney Western Art Museum, Draper Natural History Museum, and Cody Firearms Museum. Each museum is important to the facility because together they create an opportunity to become a gateway to the great American West. Each reflects different aspects of the West from Buffalo Bill’s galloping Wild West show to the “flying” squirrels of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. They are all part of the true West, and all museums in this one location create a “Center” to learn and explore five parts of the great West.
Formerly the Buffalo Bill Historical Center, the organization reviewed nearly 300 possible names, most of which were rejected due to copyright and other permission issues. Staff tested the remaining possibilities in numerous visitor surveys. “The name change is an important step in updating our image and look, to meet modern standards and to reach a broader audience” explains Eldredge. The new look is clean, simplified, and appeals to more people on a national scope.
Eldredge is quick to point out that “Buffalo Bill” remains in the Center’s name because of the roots and heritage of the museum, the town, and the surrounding area in which William F. Cody envisioned and developed the Cody community.
