Internships, Summer Jobs, and Career Skills to Be Discussed by Speaker and Author Alfred Poor on Michigan Business Network
Perkasie, PA (PRWEB) July 19, 2013 -- Career skills expert Alfred Poor will be the guest on Michael Rogers’ show “Business Next” on the Michigan Business network. He will talk about internships and summer jobs, and how important these experiences are to help college students develop the career skills that will make them more attractive to potential employers and bring them more success in their first jobs after graduation.
The interview will air at 10 AM Eastern on Monday, July 2013, and will be repeated at 3 PM, 8 PM, and 1 PM the same day. Listeners can stream the program for free at http://www.michiganbusinessnetwork.com/radio/Business_Next, and an archive version will be available for download later.
“Employers are concerned about the fact that recent graduates lack the basic career skills that companies need,” according to Poor. “When I speak to college students, I make the point that recruiters place more value on your intern and work experience than they do your choice of major.”
Studies show that many recent graduates have poor work ethic and unreasonable expectations about entry level jobs. Employers cite problems with a sense of entitlement, impatience, and poor job retention. Experiential learning opportunities such as internships and co-op education programs can help students gain a better perspective and develop good work habits. Poor will discuss some ways that students can capitalize on these opportunities to give themselves a competitive advantage in the job market.
