Mercy College Now Offers a Bachelor of Science Degree in Exercise Science
Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. (PRWEB) July 20, 2013 -- Do you like working out? Interested in fitness, strength and conditioning? Fascinated by the human body? Mercy College now offers a program to take that passion to the next level and turn it into a professional career – a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science, one of the fastest growing careers!
Mercy College has created two distinct areas of concentration. Students in both tracks will take the same Exercise Science core curriculum and will be able to specialize in one area of concentration; both tracks will prepare students for certifications such as the ACSM Health and Fitness Specialist (HFS), and NSCA Certified and Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) exams.
Performance Track - Focus on Fitness
• This track prepares students for work in a variety of high demand fields, including but not limited to: strength and conditioning, personal training, weight loss management, and performance coaching.
• Careers for health & fitness professionals and personal trainers are expected to grow through the year 2018 at a rate of 29%—that’s much faster than the average 10% rate of growth for all careers.
Clinical Track – Focus on Graduate School Preparation
• This track has a strong sciences foundation and prepares students for entry into Graduate health profession programs (physical therapy, exercise physiology, etc).
Mercy College School of Health & Natural Sciences Dean, Dr. Joan Toglia, says, "Exercise Science is a rapidly growing field and nicely complements our other Health Science Programs. This major prepares students to enter professional careers directly upon graduation as well as providing a foundation for Graduate work in the health professions."
Program Head Dr. Astrid Mel says, "The Exercise Science Program is expanding at a rapid pace, including hiring new faculty, the addition of seven new courses, and development of a state of the art exercise science lab. This major is focused on optimizing the student experience for successful entry into careers."
