Mom Turned Mompreneur Invents PooPoose™ for Easy and Safe Diaper Changes
Hinsdale, IL (PRWEB) July 20, 2013 -- Frustrated after wrestling her own baby during diaper changes and ending up covered in poo, a Hinsdale, IL mom turned Mompreneur creates the PooPoose™, a diaper changing pad designed to keep wiggly babies still during diapering.
Fort, a dentist and mother of two small children, was dressed for work and changing her six-month old daughter before heading to the office one day. “I had a real problem changing her diaper. She would squirm on the changing pad and nothing seemed to work,” Fort said. “One day, she almost fell off the changing table, and I got covered in poo.”
She called her husband, Brian, an emergency room physician at Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, IL and told him the story. Working in an emergency room, Brian Fort has seen injuries involving infants who have suffered a fall. The Forts agreed there had to be an easier and safer way.
Dana Fort was inspired by a medical device called the papoose board, which is designed to secure children and limit their movements during medical and dental procedures. Using the idea, Fort created a prototype from the baby’s changing pad. After receiving positive feedback from other moms, she decided to pursue her idea.
“They said they thought I had a really good idea. But first it had to have a name. I was joking with my husband: ‘We should call it the PooPoose.’”
They patented the PooPoose™ and found a Chicago manufacturer who saw its potential. Dana Fort has said there has been positive response from those that have seen the design. The PooPoose™ is currently sold by local retailers in the Chicagoland area as well as on Amazon.com.
“If it helps a busy mom and dad and makes their lives easier, I’m happy.” She said.
