Medal Chasers Shine at New York Open Summer Invite
New York, NY (PRWEB) July 19, 2013 -- Team Lloyd Irvin’s Medal Chasers kicked off the 2013-2014 season at the New York Open Summer at the Nate Holeman Gymnasium in New York, New York on July 13th 2013. With the beginning of a new season underway, Team Lloyd Irvin (TLI) sent 29 members of the team, 9 of whom competing up a belt rank from the previous season, into the competition to see how they'd perform. Also, several former teen competitors made their debuts as adults.
Team Lloyd Irvin came away with 11 gold and several silver and bronze medals of the 29 competitors. One of the most unexpected gold medals of the day was from Sodiq Yusuff. Sodiq was on the B team coming into the New York Open and got his opportunity to compete when a fellow teammate missed weight. The team also had a strong showing from their former teen, now adult, competitors collecting 3 of the 11 gold medals. The most impressive performance of the day was from Nyjah Easton, who again made team history by winning double gold at the black belt level in the woman’s featherweight and absolute weight division.
Master Lloyd Irvin was very happy with his team’s performance. He later stated, “I was happy that everyone got some experience and everyone gave it their all on the mat.” Master Lloyd Irvin also stated ,“I was pleased with the teams overall performance and I am looking forward to the rest of the 2013-14 season.” You can expect to see the Medal Chasers back in competition on August 17th and 18th at the Chicago Summer Open in Chicago Illinois.
