The 4th Annual Meijer State Games of Michigan were held on June 21 – 23, 2013 in Grand Rapids Michigan. An estimated 6500 athletes ranging in age from 4 to 83 participated in 34 sports at venues throughout the Greater Grand Rapids area.
The games are an Olympic style event, complete with the athletes marching in for opening ceremonies and the lighting of the Olympic Cauldron on Friday night. The athletes participate in a variety of event including Diving, Fencing, Wakeboarding and even Pickleball.
The games are open to all Michigan residents and military personal who have lived in the state for at least 30 days. The purpose of the games is to promote participation, sportsmanship and health living among the residents of Michigan. The Games are officially recognized as a participant in the United States Olympic Committee State Game Program and is part of the national network of State Games.
The SGOM has seen tremendous growth in the first 4 years, going from 2400 athletes and 14 events in 2010 to the 6500 athletes and 34 events this year.
