City Bike Designer Comments on Bike Share Study Being Conducted in Maryland
Bohemia, NY (PRWEB) July 20, 2013 -- On July 20, city bike designer, Linus Bike, comments on the bicycle share program study being conducted in Frederick, Maryland in order to determine whether or not the city should implement a permanent bicycle share program.
According to a July 17, 2013 article published on Your4State.com, entitled, “City Considers Bicycle Sharing Program,” the city of Frederick, Maryland began a “bicycle sharing program feasibility study” after receiving a $12,500 grant from the Maryland Department of Transportation. The study will determine whether a bicycle sharing program is realistic in the city, what locations would be optimal for bicycle stations, and how exactly the program, if made permanent, would be financed.
Kelly Russell, who serves on the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee, elaborates on the study. “We have folks who come to Frederick, and they don’t have the ability to rent a bicycle here. None of our businesses are in the bike rental business, so this will give them an opportunity to come have a bike for a day, tour around Frederick, and then put it back.”
Russell continues, “It’s good for the environment because you’re essentially not putting any emissions in the air. It’s good for your healthy obviously. There are just so many benefits for bicycling as opposed to driving cars.”
Jason Latty, a representative from Linus Bike, a city bike designer, couldn’t agree more with Russell. “Cities all over the country are implementing similar bicycle sharing programs for their residents and seeing amazing results. They are flourishing financially and are becoming healthier places for people to live. As Russell said, there are so many benefits to embracing a bicycle as a mode of transportation as opposed to a car. We’re sure this study program will take off and prove to be something that the city of Frederick will want to continue to invest in.”
