Baron and Budd Begins Participation in Lipitor Lawsuit
DALLAS (PRWEB) July 20, 2013 -- Baron and Budd has announced that the firm is now handling Lipitor lawsuit cases involving the alleged development of type 2 diabetes in women while taking the popular cholesterol lowering drug Lipitor. Part of the statin class of drugs, Lipitor is used by doctors to lower LDL, the “bad” cholesterol, and triglycerides in the blood. However, a link has been alleged between type 2 diabetes and Lipitor use in women.
“Our law firm is committed to helping those harmed by negligent companies,” said Russell Budd, president and managing shareholder of Baron and Budd. “Unfortunately, Lipitor use may be associated with type 2 diabetes, an unfortunate yet potential outcome from taking medication intended to lower bad cholesterol,”
To date, there has not been a recall of Lipitor associated with its alleged type 2 diabetes risk factor. However, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has required the manufacturer of Lipitor, Pfizer, to list the associated risks of developing type 2 diabetes on the drug’s warning label. Recently, in May 2013, BMJ (previously known as the British Medical Journal), published the article, “Risk of incident diabetes among patients treated with statins: population based study,” that detailed a study undertaken by Canadian researchers to understand the risk of developing diabetes among patients treated with statin drugs such as Lipitor. This particular study found that compared with pravastatin, the risk of developing diabetes is higher with statins such as rosuvastatin, simvastatin and atorvastatin - the statin used in Lipitor. Patients who are currently taking Lipitor should talk to their doctors before deciding to discontinue use of the medicine.
Women who developed type 2 diabetes while taking Lipitor and have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 31 and under are advised to contact Baron and Budd at 1.866.844.4556 for a free consultation to see if they have a possible Lipitor lawsuit.
