Civil Lawsuit Filed Against Paine College by Sophomore Victim of Alleged Sexual Assault
Augusta, GA (PRWEB) July 24, 2013 -- Stewart, Seay & Felton Trial Attorneys filed a multi-million dollar civil lawsuit today in State Court of Richmond County, Georgia on behalf of a former Paine College sophomore who was allegedly sexually assaulted in her dorm on March 7, 2013. L. Chris Stewart is the lead attorney representing the victim. He has received one of Georgia’s highest jury verdicts of 2010 for a sexual assault case against a school and has set records in several counties in Georgia with the amount of damages received for sexual assaults or negligent security cases.
The plaintiff, listed as Jane Doe, was a full-time student at Paine College at the time of the assault. According to the lawsuit, she was sexually assaulted in Graham Hall Dormitory, an all female dormitory, where she lived. Court documents further state that another student was assaulted by the same assailant in Graham Hall only months before in November 2012.
The civil filing (#2013RCSC750) alleges that Paine College failed to protect Jane Doe and its students in a variety of ways including: failure to provide a security plan, including policies, measures and procedures; improper training of campus security; an inadequate number of working security cameras; failure to patrol campus; and failure to secure doors to the female dormitories.
The multi-million dollar civil suit is requesting compensatory special damages and punitive damages for the victim’s past, present and future medical care and other expenses. Similar law suits have received nine million dollar jury verdicts.
