According to a recently released report from Fitch Ratings, interest rate cuts have failed to stem the number of mortgage defaults across Australia.
Overall, the default rate across Australia increased to 1.45 per cent at the end of March 2013, up from 1.2 per cent at the end of September 2012. Many of the worst-performing postcodes are in NSW.
“In some of the most severely affected postcodes, the numbers of mortgage holders who are more than a month behind on their repayments is almost 7 per cent,” Mr Otton said.
“This is not only startling news, but unacceptable, especially for the people struggling to keep up with their mortgage repayments.
