The Professional Patient Advocate Institute Announces the 3rd Annual Patient Advocate Conference and Pre-conference Workshops in Orlando, FL – December 5-6, 2013
(PRWEB) July 25, 2013 -- On Dec. 6th, the Professional Patient Advocate Institute, in partnership with leading healthcare media publisher Dorland Health, hosts its 3rd Annual Patient Advocate Conference at the Loews Royal Pacific Resort at Universal Orlando, Florida.
This year, we have designed the agenda to provide information that independent patient advocates, hospital advocates and managed care professionals can use to grow and improve their practices with the focus on ensuring the care they provide is patient- and family centered. The conference will shed light on the emerging trends impacting the practice, provide education to ensure clinical and professional competencies and discuss strategies to improve practice.
“Due to the focus on patient and family-centered care, advocates are in a key position to assist consumers in ensuring they have access to safe, quality, cost-effective healthcare. Their work is aligned with principles of the Affordable Care Act – to engage consumers in actively participating in their health and healthcare,” said Conference Chair Anne Llewellyn. “No cost-containment strategies will work until we include the consumer and ensure they are the central focus of every member of the healthcare team. Advocates are in a prime position to ensure patients have a voice and are involved as an equal member of the team."
The conference features keynote speaker Betty Long of Guardian Nurses Healthcare Advocates. Long is a leader in the practice of patient advocacy who has been instrumental in spreading the word on the value having a patient advocate brings to the patient and their family when thrust into the complex healthcare system.
Long will be joined by a diverse faculty with expertise in the practice of patient advocacy who will share real-world examples that will aid advocates in their practice.
The Patient Advocate Conference – the first event of its kind to bring advocates together from different settings – provides a platform for advocates to interact, share ideas and gain information and takeaways to improve their practice and empower patients as they struggle to transition through the complex and diverse healthcare system.
In addition to conference, The Professional Patient Advocate Institute will offer three onsite workshops on December 5th. They include:
The Professional Patient Advocate Certificate Workshop: This program provides a learning opportunity for professionals ready to move beyond the bedside into independent practice. The workshop can be taken by those who want to earn a Certificate in Patient Advocacy or as a stand-alone educational opportunity, worth 11 hours of continuing education credits (CEUs).
The Certificate in Hospital Patient Advocacy: This program provides an opportunity for those who work in the inpatient setting and serve as a central resource and the coordinating link to ensure that all who transition through the inpatient settings have an excellent experience. The workshop can be taken by those currently working in an in-patient setting or as a stand-alone educational opportunity for those who want to learn more about this emerging area of practice.
Case Management Accreditation: Understanding URAC Accreditation Standards and Process: Case Management Accreditation, v4.1 & v5.0 Workshop
Case management services are one of the fastest growing areas in health care and are used in a variety of health care settings. Case management allows health care organizations to better serve patients’ needs in a more dynamic way by coordinating care across the continuum of health care needs and settings. URAC’s Case Management Standards cover both health and workers’ compensation services. URAC specifically designed the Case Management Standards for organizations that provide telephonic or on-site case management services in conjunction with a privately or publicly funded benefits program.
All events will take place at the Loews Royal Pacific Resort at Universal Orlando® . For a full schedule of both programs, as well as registration and hotel information, visit the conference website at http://patientadvocatetraining.com/conference.
