Bexar County is Rewarded for Energy Conservation
Belton County, Texas (PRWEB) July 25, 2013 -- Through the use of energy efficient technology, Bexar County has significantly reduced energy consumption and carbon emissions at the Adult Detention Center. Specifically, the lighting technologies implemented into the buildings have met and exceeded the requirements of the 2005 Energy Policy Act (EPAct) certifying them as “Energy Efficient Commercial Buildings.” Through the EPAct Gives Back™ program, the district has been rewarded for their energy conservation initiatives and stewardship.
Implementation of energy conservation initiatives demonstrates Bexar County’s strong commitment to energy efficiency and cost avoidance which benefits the local tax paying community. The lighting system alone will save tax payers more than $2 million per year in utility costs. The reduction is equivalent to reducing Bexar County’s carbon emissions by 4,422,952 lbs. (2,211 tons) a year. This is also equivalent to the Bexar County removing 418 Passenger Vehicles from local roads or preserving 1,644 acres of U.S. forest.
Bexar County went through an intense engineering analysis and inspection process in order to meet all the requirements of the Energy Policy Act, administered by Walker Reid Strategies, Inc., and have received certificates for their achievements in Energy Conservation. Their commitment to Greener Detention Centers is admirable and an example to other institutions.
