Super Bowl Champion Derek Kennard Loses 160 Pounds Through Getting Treated For Sleep Apnea Thanks To Pro Player Health Alliance
Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) July 24, 2013 -- Once a center for Troy Aikman of the Super Bowl Champion Dallas Cowboys, Derek Kennard has long struggled with his weight and lack of energy during the day. Not knowing what sleep deprivation could do to his body, he tried many forms of dieting and exercise plans without any success. It wasn't until he met David Gergen, already a dental icon with over thirty years in the field, who quickly knew exactly what Derek needed. Mr. Gergen explained to Derek that sleep apnea was the culprit.
After learning more about the sleep disorder some know as the "Silent Killer", Derek soon realized that it had been affecting him longer than he'd realized as well as his family members. “My brother passed away in his sleep from the effects of this disorder. Had we been on the offense when my brother had sleep apnea, he would still be alive today,” says Kennard.
After being treated with an oral appliance known as the Herbst Device, Kennard and Gergen set out on a national campaign called "Tackle Sleep Apnea" and have since treated over 160 former professional athletes. In addition, they have educated over 1,000 individuals in the general public across the country by hosting free awareness events.
Mr. Gergen has explained how the idea of forming Pro Player Health Alliance with NFL legends to promote awareness started when he met Derek Kennard. “It is more than a game, and with the right team we can be proactive and come out winning,” says Mr. Gergen.
