State of Missouri Proclaims August 17 as Model Aviation Day
Muncie, IN (PRWEB) July 26, 2013 -- The Academy of Model Aeronautics is pleased to announce that the state of Missouri, led by Governor Jay Nixon, has declared August 17, 2013 as Model Aviation Day.
National Model Aviation Day has been established by the Academy of Model Aeronautics, the country’s governing body for model aviation, to celebrate the history of model aviation and promote the hobby on a national scale. The Academy will celebrate Model Aviation Day in Missouri through five of its chartered clubs located throughout the state.
Local clubs participating in the event include: The Northern Knights Model Airplane Club of Kansas City, The Ozark Mountain Barnstormers in Springfield, the Springfield Radio Control Club, the Tri-Lakes Radio Control Flying Club in Branson, and the Signal Chasers of Pacific, MO.
Each of the participating clubs will promote model aviation, and the many benefits of participating in the hobby. The clubs will also be holding fundraisers to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. This organization aims to provide unique, direct programs and services to meet the needs of injured service members.
The celebration at the local flying sites will include flight demonstrations, static displays, hands-on activities, refreshments and an opportunity to experience radio control flight first hand.
A total of 163 AMA chartered clubs have registered to participate and host local events, and several more are expected to sign up before the August 1 deadline. A participant map and information on specific events can be found on http://www.nationalmodelaviationday.org.
The Academy of Model Aeronautics was established in 1936 as the nation’s collective voice for modelers across the country. Today, the Academy represents approximately 155,000 members. More information can be found at http://www.modelaircraft.org.
