First Time Filmmaker Leverages Social Media To Attract Investors and Raise Thousands
Ottawa, Ontario, Canada (PRWEB) July 24, 2013 -- First time director Dave Baker today announced he has reached 50% of his $8,000 fundraising goal, just one week into his month-long campaign on the IndieGOGO platform.
A former personal trainer, Baker was fed up by the portrayal of the fitness industry presented by TV shows.
Baker decided to take action and step behind the camera. He partnered with coach Elsbeth Vaino. The duo are dedicated to providing useable information through their documentary project that will follow Vaino and her trainees over 6 months.
Live Fit Docs, Baker’s startup production company, promotes healthy living and sustainable fat loss. Fundraising is gaining momentum after a large donation by medical brother duo Dr. Spencer Nadolsky and Dr. Karl Nadolsky. The Nadolskys will also serve as executive producers.
“When we saw the details of the documentary, we knew right away this was a cause we wanted to be part of,” says Dr. Spencer Nadolsky who along with brother Dr. Karl believes that “lifestyle is medicine.” The Nadolsky brothers were excited to find a project that “promotes the idea of personal trainers being at the core of an optimal health plan.”
The documentary, which features trainer Elsbeth Vaino and her methods for sustainable fat loss are benefitting from the increased exposure after building a following solely through social media.
“We were surprised to be able to raise so much money so quickly,” explains Dave Baker. “As a first time filmmaker, I wasn’t really sure what to expect.” Campaigns on the site have a low success rate and many first time filmmakers have failed to raise the funds required to complete their project.
Thanks to Social Media, the project has been able to spread across the fitness industry rather quickly.
"The idea spread purposely throughout the personal training community and elicited action,” says author and social media expert Jon Goodman, creator of the Viralnomics website. “Trainers are passionate about their jobs. But shows that sensationalize fitness and showcase the negative are a constant source of frustration."
More information about the project can be found at the IndieGOGO website, where Vaino and Baker are continuing to receive support and contributions thanks to social media.
