Andrew Hawley from Vintage Rock Posters, an avid buyer of vintage 1950's and 1960's rock and roll concert posters, has announced his search for original New Haven Arena rock n roll concert posters. New Haven had a lively rock n roll scene in the 60s with the Cream, Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, and The Doors playing the local venues. According to Hawley, "The start of the rock n roll era in New Haven had a rocky start. In 1964, the Rolling Stones canceled their show because of lack of ticket sales. Not even the gorgeous poster printed by Murray Posters and the endorsement by Murray the K could save the show. Within a year, things heated up quickly in New Haven. Bob Dylan and Joan Baez performed at the New Haven Arena in March of 1965. Eric Vonschmidt produced one of the most famous rock posters for the Dylan and Baez New Haven show. On December 9, 1967, Jim Morrison of the Doors became the first rock n roll star ever arrested on stage during a performance. The whole event was captured by a fan on a super 8 movie camera which is now readily available on the internet. The Doors concert was heavily advertised by radio spots on WAVZ radio, but no poster advertising the concert has yet to surface. Eric Clapton and The Cream played the arena on October 11, 1968. The Cream poster featured a great silkscreened image of the band surrounded by deep rich colors. No copies are known to exist."
Hawley continues, "The Cutlers Music Store sold tickets for the New Haven arena concerts. The store may have copies of these hard to find 1960s rock concert posters. The Woolsey Hall located on the Yale University campus was another venue for rock concerts in the New Haven Area."
Hawley is looking for any original 1960's New Haven Arena concert posters or any other 1960's boxing style music posters from the new England area. He is willing to pay $3,000 cash for original poster. Please call 310-346-1965 or email andrew at vintageconcertposterbuyer.com.
