Legendary Master Diver Launches Campaign on FundAnything.com for 90-minute Expedition Documentary on The Science and Art of Free-Diving with Social Edison's Help
Miami, FL (PRWEB) July 24, 2013 -- Legendary free-diving master of the deep, Francisco Pipin Ferraras, announced today the launch of a $150,000 crowdfunding campaign on the FundAnything.com platform to raise money to film a 90-minute expedition documentary on the science and art of free-diving documenting Ferreras’ attempt to prepare for and break the No Limits Diving record at almost 700 feet. The campaign can be found at http://fundanything.com/en/campaigns/extreme-no-limits-the-science-of-free-diving.
Ferraras explains on his FundAnything.com campaign site: "In 2014, I will attempt to break the No Limits Diving world record by diving nearly 700 feet beneath the ocean in honor of my late wife, Audrey Mestre. In preparation for my record-breaking dive, scientists and medical experts will travel with me to Cabo San Lucas later this year to study my attempt to make five consecutive breath-hold dives below 100 meters in 30 minutes or less—another world record. And I will use their analysis of the data gathered during this 3-week scientific and training expedition to design the training program for my final No Limits record-breaking dive next year."
The phenomenon of free-diving was slowly emerging from the depths 15 years ago as legendary master of the deep, Ferreras, was on the verge of becoming a household name in the diving community. Ferreras, who began his extraordinary diving career spearfishing in his native waters off the coast of Cuba, had long been known in the free-diving community as a superior underwater hunter who could hold his breath longer than most. Ferreras set his sights on what would become one of the most extreme sports: Free-Diving. His extraordinary abilities immediately began to attract the scientific community.
James Cameron states: "Pipin has gone so far beyond what scientists said was possible that the mere fact of his existence forces us to ask the question, what are the limits of a human being? His quest – to go beyond, to become a true creature of the sea in body and mind – is nothing less than inspirational." Cameron's film "The Dive", based on the true love story between Ferreras and Audrey Mestre, is set to be released in 2014. Mestre had the opportunity to study with Ferreras and as he taught her everything he knew about free-diving, the two fell in love and married one another.
Mestre set her first free-diving world record in 2001 while Ferreras became the first to break the 150-meter barrier and also set the world record on two breaths of air. Despite pioneering this technique, all records set by the free-diving expert couple were done on a single breath of air for each dive.
Unfortunately, in 2002, Mestre passed away during her attempt to plunge 171 meters below the ocean’s surface on a single breath. Her death stunned divers worldwide. In 2014, Ferreras and his team will use their research to help him achieve his final No Limits Diving record, plunging to a depth of almost 700 feet in honor of his late wife. In preparation, he will be undertaking an expedition to Cabo San Lucas where he will undergo a series of scientific studies before each dive, during each dive, and after each dive.
Pipin will perform five consecutive dives below 100 meters. This world record has never before been attempted. The 90-minute documentary funded by Ferreras' FundAnything.com campaign will explore the fascinating science of breath-hold diving and will be filmed during the diving experiments, scientific studies, and record-breaking dives.
The FundAnything.com campaign to raise the $150,000 offers incentives to supporters from beautiful photo books, one-of-a-kind diving gear to travelling with Pipin’s team on the Cabo excursion.
