Great Opportunity for Primary School Teachers and Classroom Volunteers Coming to Lynnwood
Lynnwood, WA (PRWEB) July 31, 2013 -- On August 10, 2013, two long-time educators will speak about their new books at an event in Lynnwood, Washington. Paddy Eger, classroom teacher and assistant in the Edmonds (WA) School District for many years, has written the definitive guide for classrooms volunteers and assistants. Katie Johnson, classroom teacher recently retired from the Shoreline (WA) school system, has written several books on the teaching of writing and most recently a handbook for teachers on vision issues in the classroom and what to do about them.
Children’s Bookshop and Teaching Supplies will host the event from 11-2 on Saturday, August 10.
Paddy Eger is the author of Educating America: 101 Strategies for Adult Assistants in K-8 Classrooms, and its companion, Educating America Desktop Flipbook, a companion resource to the award-winning Educating America.
During her years working with children and their teachers in elementary classrooms, Paddy has developed and perfected many, many helpful strategies and routines and exercises for managing small groups and assisting the classroom teacher so that more children can learn more every day. Educating America is nothing less than a gold mine for practicing teachers and their volunteer assistants.
Katie Johnson is the author of Red Flags for Primary Teachers: Neurodevelopment and vision issues that Affect Learning with Activities to Help. She has been a teacher of young children, mostly first grade, for forty years. Between 1996 and 2012, Katie taught in Shoreline, Washington; before that she was a primary teacher in Maine.
She has been watching and worrying about the puzzling children for all those years. Why can't Susie and Jack read when they seem to have no problems? Katie concludes that they may have unfinished neurodevelopmental patterning or their eyes are not converging as they should when the children look at print.
Paddy Eger and Katie Johnson will speak about their books and sign copies for sale at the Bookshop from 11a.m. to 2p.m. on Saturday, August 10. There will be a drawing for prizes, both for teachers and for children, at 12 and at 2.
Children’s Bookshop, located at 19720 44th Avenue West, Lynnwood WA, is a bustling place in August as teachers plan and prepare for the coming school year.
