Practical Meter Raises 169k on Kickstarter, continues pre-sale on thepowerpot.com
Salt Lake City, UT (PRWEB) July 25, 2013 -- The folks at Power Practical, a Salt Lake City start-up, apparently aren't the only ones having trouble charging their phones quickly. The company introduced the Practical Meter on Kickstarter hoping to educate about inconsistent charge times in the USB world. The small meter was an instant hit, reaching it's $10,000 funding goal in just 13 hours. The 30-day campaign would go on to raise over $160,000.
"We're amazed by the support for an idea like this, but it illustrates how vast the problem of USB charging is," said Riley Swenson, VP of Marketing at Power Practical. "It's obvious we aren't the only ones who have noticed their phone charge slowly."
Now that the little device funded fifteen times over, the company is including some added perks. Each unit comes with optimized charging cables that Power Practical says will speed up charging from PCs and laptops. They also added stretch goals to cover 10-watt metering for tablets and color options on the charging cables. They are continuing to sell the device on their company website thepowerpot.com.
The device aims to solve a basic problem with USB charging. Though the size and shape of USB is indeed, universal, standards for charging above two watts are scattered at best. This is because original USB spec was for a mere 2.5 watts. Now there are competing standards for rapid-charging on USB, and they don't play nicely together.
According to the company, smartphones rarely get more than 50% charging speed from a PC or laptop. They say their product both diagnoses and fixes the problem. To learn more about Power Practical or their new product, check out their official website powerpractical.com.
