MobilityWorks Acquires Van Conversions Inc. (aka VCI Mobility), a Major Converter of Commercial Mobility Vehicles to Ambulance Companies and Health Care Organizations
Akron, OH (PRWEB) July 25, 2013 -- For the second time in a month, MobilityWorks announced another acquisition in the mobility van industry. The leading retailer of wheelchair accessible vehicles in the United States has confirmed the acquisition of VCI Mobility of Norristown, PA effective on August 1, 2013. With four new VCI Mobility locations, MobilityWorks will have increased its size to an unparalleled 30 consumer showrooms. A new store location in Oakland, CA will be opening in a few weeks. The company had just announced the acquisition of assets of Tennessee Mobility in Gallatin Tennessee only one week earlier.
"By combining with MobilityWorks, VCI will be able to accomplish much more for its clients,” said Bill Blaser, Vice President and co-owner of VCI Mobility.
Established in 1984, VCI Mobility has two Pennsylvania locations in Norristown and Bethlehem, and two New Jersey locations in Cinnaminson and Woodbury. The former competitors are very similar in culture and in their operations. They both operate two separate divisions: Consumer Mobility Products and Commercial Vans. Mobility showrooms offer a selection of new and used accessible vehicles, as well as a selection of adaptive driving aids, adaptive seating, wheelchair vans, wheelchair lifts, and accessible van rentals. The Commercial divisions provides ambulette vans to the medical transportation industry, shuttle buses, and wheelchair accessible buses for schools, group homes, nursing homes and extended care facilities.
"It was very important to me that MobilityWorks had the same kind of caring culture that we have at VCI. The people always come first," said VCI Mobility President and co-owner Jack Donovan. Mr. Donovan will continue to manage the four VCI consumer locations, along with other members of the VCI management team.
Over the years, MobilityWorks has built the most recognizable brand name in the industry. They are the largest dealer in the country of BraunAbility and Vantage Mobility International (VMI) conversions, including Dodge, Chrysler, Honda and Toyota minivans. MobilityWorks Commercial is Ford Motor Company’s largest mobility upfitter in the mobility van industry serving clients in all 50 states and in other countries. The company also manufactures its own Ford Transit Connect and Dodge/Chrysler conversions with a rear entry ramp.
“We’ve been very fortunate to be able to help a lot of people and businesses needing our solutions – and then they’re willing to tell others about their experience. That’s why we’ve been successful and able to grow,” said Bill Koeblitz, MobilityWorks President/CEO.
Scooter and power chair lifts are also options to help with lifting and transporting a mobility device. MobilityWorks employs specially trained Certified Mobility Consultants to demonstrate the various options to its consumer clients, most who are persons with a disability. They also advise on resources for financing and identify any grant opportunities, such as the Veterans Benefits Administration automobile and adaptive equipment program.
In January of 2013, MobilityWorks acquired Nor-Cal Mobility with four central California showroom locations. In 2012 they had acquired Handicapped Driver Services (aka HDS Vans) with five southeastern locations and Monmouth Vans Access & Mobility in New Jersey.
