Tanenbaum's Peacemakers in Action Release Statement about the Current Situation in Syria

"We are global recipients of Tanenbaum's Peacemakers in Action Award and peacebuilders from armed conflicts across the world. Spanning different religions, beliefs and conflicts, we have experienced war and reconciliation. We know the pain of war, the destruction engendered by hatred, and the possibilities of peace. We acknowledge the violence in too many places around the world, where civilians have become the vast majority of all casualties.
"With one voice, as the Peacemakers in Action Network, we call on women and men across the globe to join us by standing in solidarity with the people of Syria – and with the Syrian women who are caught between the guns and are calling on the combatants to stop.
"We are the Peacemakers in Action Network, and we have heard the demand of brave Syrian Women to the stakeholders in the Syrian conflict to stop the war of destruction – because the children must be saved and the dreams of mothers that their young ones will have a future in their homeland must not be quashed.
"The Peacemakers in Action Network:
• Calls on all stakeholders in this tragic conflict – to heed the clarion call of the Syrian Women and allow peace to emerge as a lived reality – immediately.
• Calls on all who read this message to be part of a global movement of solidarity in support of the people of Syria and the women who are calling for peace.
• Calls on you to appeal to your government, all foreign embassies in your country, the United Nations and other multi-lateral bodies to apply pressure on all the parties to the Syrian conflict – both internal and external – to put an end to the war.
• Calls on you to send our message to your family, friends and networks; community based and non-governmental organizations; religious leaders and leaders of other faith based organizations; business and academic leaders; and to educators, health providers, healers and other professional bodies.
"As the Peacemakers in Action Network, we know that – together – we can build the pressure of moral conviction to protect the Syrian children and remove the mothers from between the guns."
