Updated Tool Expected to Accelerate Highway Construction, Lower Costs
Austin, Texas (PRWEB) July 30, 2013 -- The data management tool highway officials and contractors use to optimize pavement construction has just been re-released as a faster tool with expanded capabilities. Veda 2.0 was developed by specialty pavement engineering firm The Transtec Group (Transtec), funded by the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT), and provides powerful data management and analysis for paving operations.
Veda is a freely available intelligent construction data management (ICDM) tool that displays, analyzes, and reports data collected by intelligent compaction (IC) and PAVE-IR technologies during construction. IC tracks asphalt or soils compaction progress and PAVE-IR collects asphalt surface temperature during paving.
IC and PAVE-IR data tend to be large and complex – a single project can include millions of data points. Engineers use Veda’s data management to improve operations to increase pavement quality, accelerate construction, and save money.
Transtec and MnDOT upgraded Veda due to increasing demand for IC. The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) finds that IC increases pavements’ uniformity, quality, and durability and includes the technology among innovations scheduled for 2013 – 2014 deployment in their Every Day Counts (EDC 2) initiative. More than 30 states are expected to implement IC in the next 18 months.
Veda 2.0 improvements include: easier data importing, faster display and analysis, improved design file compatibility, and the ability to handle larger jobs, multiple machines, and multiple compaction modes. Workers using Veda can expect to save more time and analyze data more effectively.
Transtec created Veda 1.0 in cooperation with FHWA and MnDOT. The tool has been incorporated into FHWA specifications, contract-specific specifications, and state specifications in Alaska, Central Federal Lands, Georgia, Indiana, and Rhode Island.
