New York Mint Secures Exclusive on British Gold Sovereigns in Celebration of Prince George Alexander Louis’ Birth
Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) July 30, 2013 -- New York Mint®, the world’s leading source and direct marketer of high-value collectible coins, has secured the U.S. exclusive on limited edition 2013 British Gold Sovereign Brilliant Uncirculated coins released from The Royal Mint to commemorate the birth of baby Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge. Prince George is the third heir to the throne; in celebration of this birth The Royal Mint has struck a limited number of these Gold Sovereigns on the day of his birth, July 22, 2013. This is the first time a special one-day striking has taken place to announce the birth of a future monarch. The mintage on these legal tender Gold Sovereigns is extremely low with only 2,013 coins being struck on the day of the birth. The coin’s reverse features the classic design of St. George and the Dragon by Benedetto Pistrucci along with the ‘2013’ date just below the Dragon figure. The coin’s obverse depicts the current portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadly. The Sovereign is a national British icon with a history that can be traced back for over 500 years beginning with King Henry VII in 1489. Due to the overwhelming excitement and anticipation of the arrival of Prince George Alexander Louis, New York Mint sold out of its U.S. allotment of the 2013 Gold Sovereigns within 72 hours.
