PROMIS Clinics Helps Ensure Sustainable Addiction Recovery with Transition Workshops
London (PRWEB UK) 31 July 2013 -- PROMIS Rehabilitation Clinics has launched a series of new transition workshops aimed at clients coming out of treatment or in their first year of addiction recovery that combine practical sessions, self-awareness coaching and experiential art-based explorations of creativity and healing.
Research has shown that the first year following treatment is when people are most vulnerable to relapse, which is why PROMIS Clinics already offers free weekly aftercare groups for their alumni and an optional 12-month aftercare programme that allows clients to attend 24 days over the space of a year to support their on-going recovery.
The transition workshops build on this aftercare programme with a series of sessions designed to teach clients the transitional skills required for a successful recovery including emotional management and essential life skills.
Sessions focusing on the important transition from addiction to recovery explore the different stages of change so clients can identify where they are in their journey, what to expect, learn about early warning signs and symptoms of relapses, and develop strategies and tools to help them keep ownership for their recovery and its direction.
These strategies include stress and anxiety management, letting go of negative influences, positive psychology, and the visualisation and actualisation of life goals. Clients participate in creative writing, breathing exercises and activities such as yoga as well as exploring external and internal boundaries and assertiveness training.
The workshop also helps clients to express their individual creativity through trips to artistic centres like the Saatchi Gallery and V&A Museum.
"Life is full of transitions and recovery is one of the wonderful transitions that can bring about a profound and positive change in oneself.
"Most in the early recovery stages perceive success to be in control of their addictive behaviours. However, there is an important transition in this process; after being in a pattern of addictive behaviour, there tends to be quite a strong culture that goes with it which can continue to trap us in an unhealthy cycle when an alternative is not set in its place. Moving away from this pattern does not simply involve stopping an addictive behaviour but also requires an active change in culture, one that is meaningful and meets personal needs.
"These workshops are aimed at not only maintaining in recovery but thriving in it by facilitating change and skills for self-management of crises as well as providing attendees the tools to gain a deeper awareness of themselves, find their creative outlets and manage their emotions during challenging times," explains Robin Lefever, the treatment director of PROMIS Clinics.
These workshops will be available throughout the year, clients interested in taking part can obtain more information via workshops(at)promisclinics(dot)com.
